Sony Japan shared details today on an expanded PlayStation Home closed beta for the Japanese market that will see 10,000 additional PS3 owners in Japan test out the virtual world starting in late August.
But the big news isn't the expanded beta, but one of the new features to which beta testers will have access. Sony and Namco Bandai will be putting a beta version of a new Namco Museum in the virtual world. Users will be able to play Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug and Xevious directly from virtual arcade units. Screenshots released today suggest network rankings and other community features.
These Namco classics will be joined by original arcade games based off Echochrome and the recent Japan-only PSP title Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida. Future plans call for a collaborative effort with Sony's Japan-only cat mascot character Toro from Mainichi Issyo.
A variation of this expanded beta may arrive outside of Japan, so we encourage nightly prayer before bedtime in the hopes that you'll get in. And when you're not praying, check out the Namco Museum screenshots we've posted below.
