If your PSP thought that its days of Sexy Jutsu and spiky blonde hair was behind it, tell that machine it shouldn't be thinking at all because it's not supposed to be cognizant. After you explain why a thinking machine scares our Terminator-loving generation, drop the news that Naruto Shippuden: Legends: Akatsuki Rising is coming to the portable platform this year.
Namco Bandai announced today that VIZ Media is working on the fighter based on the Naruto Shippuden series, which stars an older, wiser Naruto, and will give players control of 10 ninjas including Akatsuki. Not many specifics were available, but you'll guide these ninjas through the events of the animated series this fall. Naruto and his pals go after the fifth Kazekage, Gaara, and try to keep a demon sealed inside that Kazekage.
"Naruto Shippuden: Legends: Akatsuki brings Naruto's most exciting adventure yet to the palm of your hands," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing and public relations for Namco Bandai. "The game's epic story, multiple modes and streamlined controls make for an excellent introduction into the world of Naruto Shippuden."
This simple control scheme wasn't explicitly explained, but Namco Bandai did say you'd take it to the opponent with Jutsu attacks controlled by "simple button commands and devastate the enemies by entering Hypermode." You'll be able to select two support characters and combine their attacks with yours to "discover ultimate combos." Naruto Shippuden: Legends: Akatsuki Rising will also a pack two-player cooperative mode and versus play via ad-hoc play. Original Mode takes you through the Gaara Retrieval story as it unfolds in "lush, 3D anime inspired environments." Scenario Mode will challenge you to pick up Skill Scrolls to beef up your character's abilities. Meanwhile, Akatsuki Mode will let you play as the Akatsuki organization for the first time. Of course, Versus Mode will be there for you to take on the computer in one-on-one fights.
