Two-time murder suspect Joran van der Sloot is now back in Peru to face charges in the brutal death of a 21-year-old woman he met at a local casino. Van der Sloot’s attempt at fugitive life came to a screeching halt Thursday afternoon when he was arrested traveling by taxi by Chilean police. The 22-year-old Dutchman fled Peru just hours before Stephany Flores was found dead Wednesday morning in van der Sloot’s Lima hotel room.
According to Peruvian police the crime scene was disturbing, Flores found with a broken neck and bruises and scratches to the body. Reports are blood was also all over the room and Flores was beaten, possibly stabbed. Last night on our show, Flores’ heartbroken brother, Enrique Flores, revealed his sister’s body was unrecognizable.
Chilean authorities have officially expelled/deported van der Sloot, hauling him back to Peru this morning on a private military plane.
After years of believing he would not face any charges, van der Sloot’s troubles are just beginning. U.S. officials announce van der Sloot is also wanted in the States in an alleged quarter-million dollar extortion plot in connection with Natalee Holloway’s disappearance.
According to a criminal complaint, van der Sloot attempted to sell details about Holloway’s disappearance and the whereabouts of her remains to an unidentified person in Birmingham, Alabama for $250,000. On May 10, 2010, the 22-year-old murder suspect received an initial payment of $15,000 in the alleged plot. Authorities confirm it was a six-week investigation. The U.S. charges against van der Sloot include extortion and wire fraud.
The Dutch Public Prosecutors Office also confirms Dutch police raiding two homes connected to the van der Sloot extortion case, seizing computers, cell phones and a USB stick. Buckle up Joran van der Sloot, looks like it’s going to be a bumpy legal ride.
