There are now roughly 1.5 million apps on Google Play according to the report. Disproportionately games are driving revenue growth. They accounted for almost 90 percent of Google Play app revenue in Q1 2014. However drove only about 60 percent of downloads.

I think people mainly pay money for games because people like playing games, and are willing to spend the cash for extra features, levels, and items for their games.

A lot of people don't want to spend money on non-gaming apps like web browsers, word proccessors, spreadsheet programs, and clock apps because there are already many free ad-free alternatives, and Google Android already comes with the Chrome web browser, Google Docs, and other non-gaming apps which people commonly use.
 
Like google needs that money, but I wish I could make my own game to sell.
