At GDC this week, a very special blast from the past maker was shown which was a NES game maker. The 8-bit NES Maker lets you create an NES game with a GUI interface, no programming necessary. The games you make can run on actual NES hardware as well.
I agree. I remember having a NES when I was a kid (my parents actually bought one for the whole family). It would be fun to make your own game for it and actually get to play it.
