It looks like all of the current generation console manufacturers made the right choice when adding Netflix to their platforms. In fact, it was so popular with users that a new study suggests that Netflix is now the largest culprit of bandwidth usage in all of North America, and a majority of users access it from their video game systems.
Sandvine Incorporated reports that Netflix is responsible for 29.7% of overall downstream traffic, up from the 20.61% that the video streaming service claimed in October. In comparison, web pages only accounted for 18.36% of downstream usage.
Of the Netflix percentage, 66.3% of the usage came from a combination of the Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Daily, the consoles guzzle down about 2.5GB of bandwidth, led by the folks using the service on their PlayStation 3.
With Netflix also available on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 7 devices, as well as the eventual implementation on the Nintendo 3DS, you can be sure that this percentage is sure to rise even further.
