A standalone anime series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
It’s directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill, Promare) and features an original score composed by Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill).
“Cyberpunk Edgerunners tells a 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future.
“Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”
Netflix will show off Cyberpunk Edgerunners on June 8.
Read from tweaktown, CD Projekt says more TV and film are being planned.
"Going back to expanding brands in different pop culture fields, we continue to explore the motion picture and TV series market. The Cyberpunk Edgerunners anime, created with Studio Trigger in Japan and aired globally through Netflix, has proven that creating additional high-quality entertainment for fans of our IPs is the way to go, both from the perspective of brand expansion and the business side of things," said CD Projekt RED SVP of Business Development Michael Nowakowski.
"We are planning to do more in the area of TV and film. We have many more ideas and we will be happy to share a few more when the time is right."
I watched this and while I have some gripes but it's still a great watch but I don't get how people who haven't played the game will really follow along with the dialogue. I also enjoyed all the references in the show to the game. There was a line where a character said, "It's like these pigs keep appearing out of thin air" which is a snarky reference to the police spawning out of thin air in the original iteration of the game. Would miss that if you didn't know the game lore.
