The studio is developing a new film based on the iconic ride from Disney's theme parks, with screenwriter Katie Dippold set to pen the project. Dippold's credits include the 2016 version of Ghostbusters.
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will be producing under their Rideback banner. Rideback also produced the live-action remake of Disney's Aladdin, which was directed by Guy Ritchie.
The Haunted Mansion was already turned into a film by Disney in 2003, starring Eddie Murphy and directed by Rob Minkoff; the film was critically panned. Director Guillermo del Toro was attached to a reboot of the property in 2010, even going so far as to co-write the script before the project was abandoned. An animated version that was meant to air on the Disney XD channel ended up being canceled as well.
