Hello everyone! I thought I would make an Animal Crossing: New Leaf thread since I don't see one around yet. I will update from time to time to let you guys on some helpful tips. If you guys leave questions below, I will gladly answer them, that is if I know the answers.
Tips:
How to Earn a Free Watering Can:
If you talk to your secretary dog, Isabel, she will give you general tips on what to do if you have no idea what to do in your town. In some of the tips, she will give a small task that can be performed very quickly. I think there is about 2 tasks, but I don't know how many tips she gives you; I didn't keep track, sorry! After you milk her of all her wisdom, she will reward you with a watering can!
I don't know if the reward is the same for all games. Please leave a comment if you received something else!
How to Bypass the 2 Item Per Day:
In Nook's store they only offer two equipment per day right? For example: nets, slingshots, fishing pools, etc. There is a way to get a third one without visiting some else's town. While you perform the tasks for Isabel, she will ask you which rather do you prefer to try out first: fishing or catching bugs?* Pick the tool that Nook's store did not offer that day. Talk to her again, pick the choice that says, "I couldn't buy it." Isabel will offer to sell you a spare.
*Note: I don't know if the choices are the same for all the games. Let me know if you got a different combination!
DON'T FORGET YOUR DLC:
Seriously, don't forget your DLC every month! You can obtain your DLC items by visiting Pelly at the mail station. There is something different about DLC items in NL. Unlike the previous versions of the game, you are allowed to order them via Nook's store. Isn't that cool? So if your friend missed one month, you can purchase one for them!
Daytime or Night Time:
As a mayor of your town, you are able to control if your town is a morning town or a night owl. For example, if you pick your town to be a night owl, it will be active during the night and vice versa. Of course, there is an afternoon option as well. You don't even have to touch this mode if you don't want to change it!
My Precioussss Gems:
If you're a Bell maniac in Animal Crossing, you're in luck because Nintendo added a new way to make a lot of bells. I don't know if you know about the money rock (shame on you if you don't), every single day there is a money rock that spits out bells; the rock changes every single day. In addition to this beautiful feature, there is now a gem rock (I don't think that's the official name; however, that's what I'm going to call it). From time to time, you'll see a rock you've never seen before; HIT THE CRAP OUT OF IT WITH YOUR SHOVEL! These babies spew out different kinds of gems that can earn you big bells! After you milked the rock of all of it's worth, the gem rock with shatter and disappear.
DON'T TAKE BREAKS IN BETWEEN YOUR HITS. HIT THE ROCK AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN BECAUSE IF YOU WAIT TOO LONG, YOU CAN'T RECEIVE ALL THE BELLS OR THE GEMS THAT YOU CAN OBTAIN. MILK THAT BABY!
DLC Items By the Month:
Silver and Golden Items:
Warning: methods to obtain a golden shovel and golden slingshot might've been modified in NL. I didn't get a chance to test them out yet. Don't get angry if the methods do not work!
I'll update this section as I heard how to obtain every single silver and golden items. For now I only know how to get the silver net, silver fishing rod, golden net, and golden fishing rod for sure.
Silver Items:
You must have a second floor in your museum.
THE ISLAND IN THE SUN:
Before I start yapping about the island, if you caught my Weezer reference, I love you. Weezer 4 lyfe!
Ahem, anyway, the island is basically like the city in City Folk but better. You can purchase exclusive items by trading them for medals. What are medals and how do you obtain them? On the island, instead of using bells for currency, they use medals. You can obtain them by going on island tours. Island tours are basically mini games that you can play alone or with your friends! I believe you can catch exclusive fish on the island as well. When you go on the island, your pockets will be emptied will be restored to you when you go back to the main land. Don't worry about tools because you can rent them once you get on the island.
Wetsuits:
Wetsuits are the things you have to wear in order to go swimming or diving in the sea. You can obtain these babies on the island for 40 medals. Your friends may rent wetsuits as well. I'm not sure if you can, though.
How to Cliff Dive:
When you wear your wetsuit, you have the ability to cliff dive! Just look for a cliff (make sure there is no sand underneath), and jump right into the water!
Questions:
Q: Why is my flower sparkling?
A: Calm down, it's not a special flower or anything; it's just a new feature basically tells you if you watered the flower or not. It comes in pretty handy if you have a lot of flowers.
Q: Is Gulliver still in the game?
A: Yes, Gulliver still exists; however, you don't have to look up in the sky anymore because instead of appearing in a UFO, he appears on your beach. He travels the world and will send you items from the places currently at via mail. Of course, there is a catch; you must answer his question correctly or else you will not receive an item!
