The first new character, H'aanit the Hunter, is on a journey to find her master, who disappeared while pursuing a dangerous monster. Her Path Action is Provoke, which allows her to summon wild animals to attack people. This enables her to chase off enemies, or open paths blocked by hostile forces.
The second new character, Therion the Thief, has been hired by a mysterious client, who tasks him with the theft of a precious gem. His Path Action is Steal, which allows him to take what he wants from almost everyone. This includes items Therion can use to complete quests, as well as rare or unique items, not sold in any store.
The trailer also reveals protagonist's Path Actions will be divided into Noble and Rogue Path Action. There are a number of ways to get things done in Octopath Traveler, and the choices players make will determine how NPCs respond.
Tressa and Therion can both obtain items from villagers; Tressa can use her Noble Action, Purchase, without fear of reprisal. Therion, however, must Steal, and while he won't lose money in the exchange, villagers have a chance to catch him in the act, which will give him a bad reputation with the locals.
Noble actions can be taken at any time, although they may be limited by how much gold players have, or even by their level. Rogue actions, however, can be used any time, regardless of level, but failure will result in damage to the player's reputation, leaving villagers less receptive to your actions.
Should that happen, players who wish to get back into the good graces of the common folk need only bribe the barkeep to spread good rumors about them, restoring their reputation in the process.
In addition to the main stories in Octopath Traveler, Side Stories will also be available, which require players to make clever use of Path Actions to help the various people they will meet on their journeys, and these quests may have more than one solution.
