There's still a few New Super Mario Bros elements in the game, but the screenshots and trailers provided show a very interesting looking 2D Mario game with hand drawn backgrounds and some fairly original ideas.  Haven't seen one of those since Super Mario World...

Now this looks really nice.  I love the new power up, the fancy Super Mario World styled background with plenty of depth to it and the unique art like style of the ledges.

Gliding down. I like the foreground and background, as well as those squirrel like enemies you have to dodge.

Yoshis with unique abilities?  Whoa, this really is becoming a New Super Mario World.  Also, anyone else realise those giant enemies from New Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario Bros Wii are back?

Blue Yoshis can shoot bubbles?  And baby Yoshis are in the game? Nice!

Not much to see here.

Wow that background looks fantastic, I love the crayon drawn style used for the background including the creepy looking picture of Bowser!

This reminds me a lot of Yoshi's Island...

Stars!  Winter trees!  And our favourite friends, Munchers!  Outside of pits!

Yeah, those SMW mods are becoming an inspiration for even Nintendo now!

Giant Goombas in the forest world. Looks really nice I say, reminds me a bit of Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Finally, some Pokeys in a desert world.

Am I the only one who think New Super Mario Bros U looks like the most interesting and original 2D Mario platformer in years?  I actually really want to play it.

Hey, Nin? You know how you wanted Reznors?

Also, SoulSilver uploaded that video... is he a member here? He sounds familiar *cough*

The only thing I don't like about this game is how Yoshi expands. Like how does he even do that?

So does this mean normal yoshi isn't in the game? All I've been seeing are the baby yoshis like the ones in the snapshots. I'll be gravely disappointed if you can't feed them to make them normal size.

^So far I don't think it's been confirmed that normal Yoshi is, but I'm not sure. Though if he were, there's a chance of having to ditch him like in New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

I was worried about that at first, but at least the official artwork confirms normal Yoshi.

Well then. I never saw that. So it looks like our old dinosaur friend is returning. Still though I hope they don't make us ditch him after every level. That's the one thing I didn't like about NSMBW. That and star coins. I'm kind of getting sick of star coins.

Well, if they didn't force you to ditch yoshi in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, you could do this:

Would getting the Wii U then getting the game digitally from the eShop be cheaper?
It should be. If you think about it, you cut out the manufacturing of packaging, and the cost of fuel to produce and ship the game. Digital download should be a bit cheaper. At least, one would hope Nintendo would reduce the cost.
