Today at the end of the Microsoft Press Conference they announced a new way to control games. This camera captures your motions and essentially makes the gamer their own controller.
The demo video showed people playing games like skateboarding and destroying a city through their own motions. The video also shows a child holding a skateboard up to his TV, scanning the shape, and having it inserted into a game with selectable skins. It then showed a girl scanning her body, and was then able to try on dresses on the screen while talking to her friend in video chat mode.
The sensor tracks movements and has voice recognition. 1 vs. 100 will work with the voice recognition system and users can also use the voice commands to launch a movie. This project is called project Natal and it will work with every 360 sold so far. From what was shown it looks like a rectangular peripheral that sits low in front of your television.
Stephen Spielberg showed up on the stage to call the project a landmark achievement.
