We've been sitting pretty for a looong time now at $60 USD costing video games, but starting next gen the price is going up by $10 USD.

Sony revealed today that Demon’s Souls, Destruction AllStars, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition (which also includes a code for the remastered version of the previous game) will cost $69.99 USD apiece when they launch alongside the PlayStation 5 on November 12. Additionally, the standalone release of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is priced at $49.99 USD while Sackboy A Big Adventure will be $59.99 USD.

Read from psu and bloomberg that before sticking to $70 Sony wanted to go even higher:

“At one point, Sony discussed going even higher before settling on $70. Many of the game executives requested anonymity, apparently because they recognize the move is unpopular. In many cases, companies won’t acknowledge the fee increase, saying only that prices will vary by title.”

Hopefully, there will still be many $60 PS5 games, so more gamers can more easily afford new games compared to buying a $70 game.

better to go slowly than all at once.

$50 is just as bad and cost allot of money, At times I only buy games that are worth $30 max. No need to go up and up in the price of games nowadays. Like anything else, the game is going up higher.

Hopefully, $70 games will have a better storyline, have more features, and have more side quests, so the games are more worth buying at $70.

Most Rpgs are at least justified enough with the $70 price tag because of their length and contents for me. Mostly the action/shooter games that will really need to increase the game's length with the $70 price tag, as most action/shooter games are only 10-15 hours in length, imo.

I feel RPG games could be worth the $70 price tag because they have many levels, sidequests, long story, and things to do in the game. Plus, you can usually re-visit towns in the game you been to in the past.

It can be more difficult to charge $70 for puzzle, racing, shooters, and party games where the story is not as long, and the story is sometimes simpler.
