Nintendo NINTENDO ACCUSED OF CULTURAL APPROPRIATION WITH ODYSSEY

There's a difference between being racist and respecting the culture. Plus, the outfit, like most outfits as I've learned, is a reference to another Mario game that was on the gameboy.

Caps lock much :p

But yeah this is a homage to a old outfit Mario wore in a decades old game. Amazing how reactions have changed since then.

Also I see Mexicans dress up like this when singing, so I don't see the point of this.

people just want stuff to be offended by

Also, from what I hear, I don't know if it's 100% true, it's mainly white people who are offended for the Mexcian people while Mexicans are actually really excited about it.

Oh boy, this stuff again?

SJWs can go to hell if you ask me. Cultural 'appropriation' is a complete fantasy whose defenders make actual culture ten times worse.

Games are meant to be fun.
SJW's will never stop. They'll always find offense in something. Just have to ignore and not touch the poop. Cultural Appropriation has lost all its meaning with how many times they throw it out there.

I miss the days when games can be just the story and not have to tiptoe against critics who don't even play. It's sad, and yet companies like Ubisoft actually take advantage of this new "PC" culture by adding female characters, hiring female staff members; just so they get good publicity from these critics, even though the people their hire may not be the right person for the job.

I'd understand the outrage if they had, I don't know, painted Mario's face brown and made him yell obnoxious racist Mexican phrases but... This is inoffensive. The charro outfit is popular and global enough to be instantly recognized and it has no deep religious meaning. It's just an outfit for mariachis.

However the article is highly sensationalist. This is not "Nintendo accused of cultural appropriation", this is just less than five comments said by easily offended kids on Twitter. And since they have no massive RTs or any kind reach whatsoever, Nintendo is in no trouble over this at all.

Accusing Odyssey of cultural appropriation is stupid, but the article is just trying to make this bigger than it really is for clicks, that's all.

Yeah, it's not really something people are complaining about to begin with. Alas, two people posting something on Twitter or Reddit is now construed as 'the general public thinks X'.
