Nintendo shared today its latest financial report, covering April to September. Sales and profits were up dramatically over the same period last year, although a falling yen caused the company to revise some of its profit forecasts down.

Over the six month period, Nintendo posted sales of 836,879 million yen, up from the 694,803 million yen of the same time last year. Operating income was 252,183 million yen, up from last year's 188,784 million.

DS sold 13.73 million units over the first half of the year, reaching worldwide sales of 84.33 million. Wii sold 10.1 million units worldwide, reaching total sales of 34.55 million.

In software, Nintendo pointed to Pokemon Platinum and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon as strong performers for the DS, which saw 85.02 million software titles sold for the year, or 454.63 million to date. For the Wii, Nintendo mentioned strong sales of Mario Kart and Wii Fit, and continued success of Wii Play. Wii software sales for the period were 81.41 million units, with life-to-date totals reaching 229.85 million units.

Based off the performance during the past six months, Nintendo also issued modified forecasts for the rest of the year. The company expects net sales to remain at 2 trillion yen. However, it expects a drop in operating income from 650,000 million yen to 630,000 million yen. The drop is attributed to a change in foreign currency rates with Nintendo now using a 100 yen per U.S. dollar rate as standard. Previously calculations had used a 105 yen to dollar rate.

In addition to this, Reuters reports that Nintendo is now expecting total Wii hardware sales for the year ending March 2009 to reach 27.5 million, up from the previous target of 26.5 million. DS forecasts remain the same, at 30.5 million units.
