Have to say, this press release made me laugh a bit:

The New Super Mario Bros. series dashes, stomps and Wall Jumps onto Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL this summer, with the release of New Super Mario Bros. 2 on August 17th!

This brand new instalment in the series offers classic Mario thrills and spills, and this time there’s also a golden twist on gameplay - the whole game is crammed full of coins to collect! Can you lay your hands on a million? Our teaser site for New Super Mario Bros. 2 has just been minted and is now open for business - with a 24 carat game trailer, shiny new screenshots, and some little ingots of game info too, it’s well worth investing the time to find out more!

If all this talk of Mario coinage has you raring to go, then you’ll be Ground Pounding in your seat when you hear about our pre-order gift! Pre-order this title from GAME or gamestation to collect a limited edition, gold* coin-shaped case - perfect for protecting your Game Card, or maybe even carrying a few real coins!

Still champing at the bit for more on Mushroom Kingdom currency? Watch our Iwata Asks video interview on New Super Mario Bros. 2, to find out more on the ‘million coin concept’, Coin Rush mode, and co-operative two-player action.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be in shops across Europe from August 17th, only for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL.

*Please note that the New Super Mario Bros. 2 collectable gold coin case is gold-coloured only and does not contain any real gold.

*Looks as all the gold dealers wanting to sell 3DS coin cases on the black market look deflated*

Seriously, am I the only one who pictures some criminal stealing pre order gifts and trying to melt them down thinking its real gold?

Also, I wonder how Mario feels when he realises the Mushroom Kingdom economy is crap and that those one million gold coins are worth...

1 Beanbean Kingdom coin

(kudos to anyone who gets the reference)

I think the Mushroom Kingdom is supposed to look rich, but in reality it's actually suffering from inflation.

The fact that they had to say that it is gold colored and has no real gold, is very sad, to be honest.

Also if a million coins is 1 Beanbean Kingdom coin, it would be in Mario's best interest too just return to the Beanbean Kingdom, find a Beanbean Kingdom coin, and trade it in. Goal beat in a few seconds and a fun game jump rope with some Hammer Bros. Unless that was in Partners in Time then I have my M&L games confused.

actually 99,999,999,999,999, (99 trillion,999 billion, 999 million, 9 hundred and 99 thousand, 9 hundred and 99 coins) is 99 beanbean coins
so 1 beanbean coin is 101,001,010,101 mushroom coins (101 billion). so 1 million coins is worth about 0.0001 beanbean coins

You misunderstood. I was saying that the Beanbean Kingdom and the events went on in Superstar Saga. I was just unsure if it was SS or PiT since it's been a while since playing them.

I want to go to the Beanbean kingdm in New Super Maio Bros. 2
If that was dlc i would pay like $50 for it

Warning: This product is NOT a real life gold coin. Sorry about that. Please do not try to sell the coin for a high price as it isn't worth that much. Also on this list are the Stardust and several other items from the Pokémon series that can be sold in-game for a high price.

Wario. According to the Prima guide of Mario Kart Double Dash he wanted the gold trophy so he could melt it down for more cash. So he'd probably think of trying this.
