Nintendo Re-Thinks Console Lifespan

Nintendo thinks the DS and Wii may be around longer than past Nintendo consoles.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explained during a Japanese conference documenting the Q3 earnings of the company that the usual lifespan of a console is five years, and that fresh hardware is often the result of the company needing a "new weapon in the fight against other consoles." With the Wii, however, Iwata feels that the company won't be needing any new weapons for quite some time, stating "But today's situation is such that we are not desperate for any new weapons at all."

What do you think? Is the Wii a fad or will it outlast other consoles?

I think it's going to last. No matter how much people want to look down on it, the gameplay is really good and everyone I know has been enjoying it.

Yeah I saw that. They said they are not going to make any new systems for a while. Its not that surprising. If you look at it, the Gamecube did not have a new system for around 5 years. I dont know, I think all three creators need to take a break and work around the 3 great systems.
