From Nintendo Life:

Since Nintendo announced its financial results yesterday — where it revealed that the Switch has now sold more than 107 million units worldwide, and predicted that profits would again drop in the next financial year — there's been an awful lot of chatter about a Switch successor, hasn't there?

In a Japanese investor Q&A, translated by Robert Sephazon for VGC, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has spoken about the results and the future of the company. And the Switch's successor indeed came up during the talk.

Despite saying that the Switch was only "in the middle of its life cycle" back in February, Furukawa indeed acknowledged that it wouldn't be around forever, but that the transition to a new next-gen console is "a major concern" for Nintendo. Furukawa says the Switch's smooth launch has allowed them to plan and develop for the console even after over five years, but that they are focusing on building "long-term relationships" with customers in order to alleviate as much risk as possible for the hybrid's future successor.

I hope the Switch Successor will be successful. I think the Switch successor could be successful because Nintendo has a lot of fun exclusive games like Mario, and Pokemon.

Can you blame them? Wii U nearly sunk their ship.

I hope so too! I agree It could be successful of it exclusive games and a large fan base.

No, but who's fault is it that it nearly sank their ship?

It will be interesting to see what they come up with next. Honestly can't imagine a console that doesn't look like the Switch now lol

I felt the 2008 to 2012 Great Recession was one of the reasons that the Wii U did not sell as well because a lot of people who may of wanted the Wii U may not have a lot of spending money to spend on the Wii U because they may still be trying to pay back their debt like student loans, and credit card bills.

The Wii U had a lot less third-party support and was hard to program from what I've heard. Having it be region-free like the Switch and having the support of a lot of commonly used game engines and programs will help. Keeping things simple enough to sell but with something to make them stand out like 3DS Streetpass, so even Netpass (sharing experiences with your friends online), and support from previous hardware, like say, the GBA or 3DS. I will say I want it to last more than anything with the biggest issue being drift, and then battery life, and everything else minimalist. Even an HDMI adapter for TVs instead of cords. The potential is there.

As long as Nintendo have self-awareness about this next transition then I'm sure everything is going to be okay with them.
