Wii U is the Nintendo Wii successor. That doesn't mean the upcoming HD console is going to pick up where Wii pricing leaves off.

"I don't think we can charge the same price as we currently do for the Wii," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Japan's Nikkei Newspaper. The Wii is currently priced at under ¥20,000 (US$250) in Japan.

The Nintendo boss added, "I don't think the Wii is going anywhere anytime soon." Like the PS2, the Wii could continue to have legs after new hardware launches.

When the Wii went on sale in 2006, it was priced at ¥25,000 ($313) in Japan and $250 in the U.S.

The Nintendo 3DS launched at ¥25,000, making it doubtful that the high powered Wii U with its tablet controller will launch at ¥25,000.

in short, it won't be cheap.

Any word about how much the controllers will cost?

I think Nintendo said that the controller comes with the system and won't be sold as a standalone product, at least that's what I've read elsewhere. So I'm guessing if something goes wrong and you need a replacement controller, you will need to ring up Nintendo.

Shame it won't be priced as cheap as previous Nintendo consoles, Nintendo's always been about keeping the prices of their system as low as they could to compete.

I have read that it is speculated to be around $350-$400. And I believe that will be the price, since it is in HD and there is a table

Iffy price. Anything higher than $350 is a no for me, because if the PS4 and the NeXbox are going to be impressively better, and most likely at $400, there is no way I would bother with this.

I've heard about the Wii U.

Don't think I'm going to get it. If you ask me, I'm pretty fine with my Nintendo DS, lol.

Anyway, you all should see the pricing for the Wii U soon. There should be announcements soon, although their release date is far, I think.

They're going to learn a lesson that Sony learned the hard way if that price is too high. And from the way they made it seem, it will get mostly PS3 and 360 ports. And they'll get them late at that. So surely having too high a price won't do them any favors.

I can not see how they are going to charge much more then $250. The worlds economy is in a recession right now a lot of families are having problems putting food on the table. Little alone coughing up $250+ for a new game console. :hammer:

I don't think we're going to get any word of pricing right now. It'll probably be announced sometime later this year at their developer's conference, is my guess.
Analysts are predicting that they can't really price the device over $300 to compete with the 360/PS3.

The controller may be expensive. But let the games be priced at a $60 (or less), at least.

The sad thing is that the Wii U only allows one Wii U controller "at this time". So, you will probably end up having to buy Wiimotes, Nunchucks and Classic Controllers to play local multiplayer which is terrible.

I am a bit worried for Nintendo here. With the higher tech controller in place, it is going to make the Wii U more expensive, and as it has been said, you may not even be able buy it as standalone*. They are going to have to make the games highly worth it as with the competition of other companies, the market may go for what is cheaper.

*With the Wii U, though, I find it hard to determine what the console/system actually is. That is, is it the Wii U, or the controller? :whistling:

I hope at least that it is affordable and you can buy it separate for the actual console, rather than a bundle. I still like the wii mote( I also do not want to pay 200 bucks for a tablet controller).

Yeah, they really need to sell the controllers. I mean would every person have 2 controllers and there are only 2 players allowed to play on each game?
