As of May 20, 2014, certain online functionality offered through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will no longer be accessible. The discontinued services include online play, matchmaking and leaderboards for many Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games. For a comprehensive list of games and services that are affected, please check http://support.nintendo.com/servicesupdate. Users can still play the games in offline mode, which continues to offer a rich game-play experience.

Online play for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games will be unaffected (aside from the Wii mode on Wii U and Nintendo DS games on Nintendo 3DS family systems). Other online functionality, such as access to the Wii Shop Channel, the Nintendo DSi Shop and video-on-demand services, are also not affected at this time.

We at Nintendo sincerely thank our fans for their continued support of our company’s legacy systems. Your enthusiasm for games made for these systems speaks to their longevity, and the passion of Nintendo fans." -- nintendo.com :omg:

For the record, you will not be able to use Nintendo Wi-Fi with these titles even if you use a 3DS or a Wii U to play them, so get your last kicks in now; that includes those of who create/modify Pokemon data using a program that connects to the GTS (such as PokeSav/PokeGen). :gameboy: :bowser: :(

What do you guys think will happen next? What games listed do you still use Nintendo Wi-Fi for? Do you need to rage? Well, here you go. :banghead:

I voted. I'll tell you what is good for me and my siblings(brother and sister):

I am happy and sad at this. For the sad part, I'm sad because Nintendo is discontinuing Wi-Fi connections for both the Wii and Nintendo DS family systems, but in a good way. The reason why is because we all don't use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection anymore. We all got Nintendo 3DS XLs for Christmas so we don't have to worry about the NWFC now. Basically now all we have to worry about is our new service called 'Nintendo Network'. So, I'm glad their discontinuing it so they can focus on what's in the present and future.

So that wraps up my side of my opinion.

I heard PokeSave/PokeGen should still work because they connect to a private server instead of Nintendo's.

I really hope so! I finally was able to create pokemon that were able to bypass the Pokemon Bank filters...

I'll only be upset if the support for the wii's netflix is destroyed in this fire.

it saddens me to see NWFC taken down. i believe they did it so they wouldnt have to spend more money on the servers and to push the 3ds and wii u more

Yeah I feel bad for people who still own DSs and Wiis but I think it's more important for Nintendo as a company to devote more attention on their new hardware. Personally I don't care about them discontinuing the Wi-Fi because I have a 3DS XL and Wii U.

Generations die. It is a matter of things going obsolete when they get too old. Think of Windows XP. It is no longer supported. Services really can't be running forever, but other people can find a way to continue them. Hopefully someone will make a new Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection server so everyone can play online games again (provided that a 3DS update does not remove Wi-Fi Connection settings)
