Windows XP is no longer receiving support, and Microsoft warns that without security updates and patches, a computer running this operating system could easily be hacked by someone who finds an unpatched vulnerability.
But as far as security experts at anti-virus testing institute AV-TEST are concerned, everything should be just fine as long as you run third-party protection that’s fully updated on your computer.

Windows XP has a lot of security software like antivirus, antimalware, firewalls, and other security software for it. It maybe more difficult to hack a lot of XP computers because a lot of users installed enough protection like antivirus, antimalware, firewall, and other software on Windows XP over the years. While a lot more Windows 7-8 computers maybe missing a important software like a good antivirus, antimalware, and firewall software because many of the users did not bother to switch to more secure security software.

I think more hackers these days are trying to hack smartphones, and tablets, and social networks like Facebook, Twitter, etc because almost everyone use one compared to Windows XP userbase which is slowly declining.

I also heard offline stores like Target, Home Depot, etc got hacked, and hackers are hacking real banks.

I like to think XP is regarded too highly for hackers to go after who may gain more fame by hacking W8 instead of XP.

I read on a blog the Windows 8 App store is full of scammy apps uploaded by Scammers which pretend to be real apps made by VLC, and other big companies because Microsoft is not doing a good job moderating their own apps store compared to Google, and Apple which are getting better at removing fake apps which scam people of their money.

I think one of the advantages of XP is that it does not have an official Apps store, so people mostly download programs from SorceForge, FileHippo, and Download.com which mostly have programs which are not scams or viruses. Plus, the top downloads on most Windows download websites are security software made by Avast, Avira, and AVG because they are better than Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Firewall which are sometimes not good enough to protect a PC from virus programs.
