The Sony Playstation 3 may be one of the less expensive BRD live-enabled Blu-Ray players on the market, but its certainly still on the high-end of game consoles. With sales beginning to gain momentum, rumors have been circling the internet about upcoming price cuts and new models. But according to chief financial officer Nouyuki Oneda, no such price cuts are coming. Oneda has been quoted after speaking to a forum in Singapore as saying that "this year, Sony's strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3, but to concentrate on profitability." Much to gamer/consumer lament, Sony's plan to keep profits high and sales regular "is not to reduce the price."
On a side note, I had a funny thought the other day. I took Nathan to get the Wall-E video game. Once we got to the store, there was a display with the game on all the consoles it's on. Needless to say it's on the Wii, 360, PS3, and PS2. The PS2 version was $10 cheaper than the other versions. As we are looking at the display, the thought crossed my mind that it was funny that they released it on the PS2 and the PS3...obviously game makers know that the PS3 isn't really going to be strong in sales.
