Recently we spotted evidence that NVIDIA is getting ready to launch a new version of its Shield Portable handheld game console with new features including 802.11ac WiFi and Android 5.0 software.

It seemed like a safe bet at the time that the new model would also get a faster processor than the Tegra 4 chip used in the original (which launched in 2013).

Now there’s a little more evidence that the next-gen Shield Portable will have NVIDIA’s new Tegra X1 processor.

The Nvidia X1 is a very fast processor. If this is true, the next Nvidia Shield will be the most powerful Google Android handheld which exist, and possibly, the most powerful handheld beating the Vita, and 3DS in speed.

I thought they just released a new handheld?

Yes, Nvidia use the Shield name too much. They also use the Tegra name a lot as well.
I hate it when companies do that... It confuses the customers so much... Like, when HTC released two cellphones, one running on Android and one on Windows Phone, both of them named HTC M8. :ermm:

For things like consoles, it can be easy for less savvy users to confuse with consoles with similar names.

I think fewer customers will be confuse by a Windows Phone, and Google Android because the operating systems both look very different.
