At his commencement speech over the weekend at Hampton University, President Obama took some time out from inspiring a generation to lay the presidential slam down on video games, iPads and other "distractions."

"With iPods and iPads; Xboxes and PlayStations -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation," Obama said. "All of this is not only putting new pressures on you. It is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy," he added.

Obama also said an education can help people make sense of the different viewpoints and voices "clamoring for attention on blogs, on cable, on talk radio."

I'm not seeing this guy getting reelected.

He has a point.

People should be reading books, and going outside instead of sitting on their asses playing games, having their eyes glued to their tv, computer or device screens.

An education is important, but instead of innovation, and self-improvement, people would rather use the new technology to be attention whores looking for their 15 minutes in the spotlight on Youtube. It's why many are saying that this generation is the dumbest generation yet.

Still, I'd hardly consider his remark as slamming tech though.. just common sense.

And if his words regarding this issue cost him re-election, then, that just reflects the stupidity of those in this country.

Keep in mind that even though we use TV's and computers, etc.. for entertainment, we also use it to watch Obama and find out the news. Without it, would you know that Obama even made this comment?
No, because you weren't there in person.

The next thing you know, he'll be dissing books because we read those for entertainment, right? Might as well not even have phones either.

I can understand why he would want to say this, and while true that too many people spend too much time on the computer, with iPads, on youtube, etc.. what else are we going to enjoy in life?
Sure, going outside is awesome and I love taking long walks, but not everyone loves being outside.
I spend a lot of time on the computer, too, but I learn a lot of stuff. I play video games, watch tv, and read fictional books, but I can tell you that I know a lot more than your average 16 year old still. People say you don't learn anything from watching tv, computers, or games, but that is truly false. I may not be learning how to spell or how to do algebraic expressions, but you learn, without even realizing it sometimes.

Im no geek who knows all of Einstein's formulas and I don't know how to take apart the space shuttle and put it back together again, but that doesn't mean Im wasting my time. People deserve a little bit of enjoyment in life. School is where you are being taught. Teach us at school, let us relax at home. We can do what we please, and if the country falls apart because of it, that's our problem.

True, kids should be spending more time outside, but that's a weight issue, not a knowledge issue.

Obama just telling people to not get too involve in entertainment, and what you read online. But, instead to read a book and find others way to enlighten yourself and others around you with Knowledge.

Obama is the first US president to actively use Tech. Obama owns a Black Berry Smart phone, Wii, and probably countless more gadgets compared to Bush, and Clinton. Plus, one of the reasons Obama became so popular with young people is because he effectively used Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and other social networking sites combined with regular promotional methods while the Republicans stuck to basic promotional methods like Radio, TV, Rallies, and speeches.

Since Obama became president, the Whitehouse has a Youtube channel, Twitter, and Facebook. Also, the Whitehouse website at http://www.whitehouse.gov/ now uses Drupal free open source CMS instead of a closed-source content management system or Dreamweaver, Frontpage, or commercial web building software.

If I was a American, I rather vote for Obama instead of someone like Sarah Palin, since Obama seems a lot more relaxed and less extreme compared to Sarah Palin.
