While the established order of home consoles happen to be in the form of the Sony PS4, the Xbox One and the Nintendo Wii U, do not forget that there are also other players out there in the market, such as NVIDIA and Ouya. Well, Snail Games has decided to throw their hat into the ring as well, with a spanking new Android-based game console that they haved called OBox (or “online box” in full), which was also paraded at CES earlier this year.

Being different from other consoles that are based on the Android platform, the OBox was not designed for streaming, as it does allow players to download games to the hardware instead. It will also be able to output games in 4K resolution, and comes with an “air mouse” that has been integrated within its controller, making it resemble something that hails from Microsoft’s labs.

This looks like a nice alternative console. It is cool that it can display games in 4K video resolution.

It seems like mobile gaming is evolving. It will take a long time for it to break into the console market though. Luckily, it seems to have a market of it's own. Albeit a small one. I'm sure there are people out there who would want to play their mobile games on big flatscreens.
I think the first games to be developed for this kind of console will be decisive to it's success. One big hit is all it needs.

It is hard to imagine another competitor to the Xbox, Playstation, and Wii consoles. The thing that seems cool about the OBox is the air mouse and also the fact that you can upgrade it rather than buying a whole new console. I would like to hear more about the price. Anyone have any ideas on how much it would cost compared to the current systems?

Is it me or does it seem like consoles are slowly evolving into PC's just retaining the "console" name to make it seem like they are not.

I agree most people will want to play mobile games like Modern Combat 5, Hitman Go, Temple Run and Gangster Vegas on a Big TV since it is more comfortable.
