Bad news to Octopath Traveler fans who were looking forward to DLC, because there won't be any.

In an interview with Dengeki Online, Square Enix producer Masashi Takahashi said that it should take about fifty to sixty hours to complete the main story.

“It took about 80 to 100 hours in testing to play through the other elements, like sub-stories and dungeons that you don’t have to go to as well as get proficient as you like at using special skills as field commands.

He finished the interview saying the released game will be a finished one, but hopefully this won't apply to any needed patches down the line.

I'm fine with that. I may buy a lot of DLC, but I still think DLC is something that's killing video games. Most devs use it as a way to release a half of a finished game just to put the rest behind DLC. Not all do that, and a lot of DLC is an after thought, but just sell a full game. If you have new ideas, make a sequel.

Seem like it was done well with Breath of the Wild.

Like I said, not all are as greedy. Though BotW felt super disconnected from its DLC. I feel like the DLC would've been more fun to run into while playing through normally. I'll rephrase. If you have a small idea, like Champion's Ballad, small items, or even the Shantae Half Genie Hero DLC, it's fine. Though, if your DLC adds a bunch of new story and all that, I feel like it'd be best just to make a new game out of it.
