She was really that hysterical over this. That said though, a lot of people take things way too seriously than they should be or rather, have a problem separating the actor from the characters they play. She might have some undiagnosed emotional or mental problems but are using Twilight and the relationship between the actors as a coping mechanism.
There are a lot of people out there who have trouble with making the distinction between reality and fiction. Some people still call Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow, Monica, Rachel and Phoebe respectively, and worse, expect the actors themselves to remain in character either off the set when the show was still being filmed or now, since the show has ended.
There are also those who feel as though they are so close to a celeb, that they refer to them using nicknames, or if they are a couple, combining the names of both, (such as calling Beyonce, Bey or RobSten to refer to Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson's relationship) even though they have never met these people in real life, and probably never will. Or worse, get angry at the celeb over something that happened in their personal life, as if it happened to them and/or make death threats against a person that they are currently involved with.
There are those who believe that just because the actors of a show get along so well, or have such great on-screen chemistry that they are also fucking in real life. Case in point, the rumor about Marc Anthony and Jada Pinkett having an affair because their sex scene on HawthoRNe was apparently so hot, that it sent many viewers to the bathroom with some some tissue and they just knew that the two actors were having an affair in real life.
These are all examples of people who can't determine fantasy from reality..
Either way, laughing at someone about this, their weight or anything else, for that matter, just makes you an insensitive jerk, and it is this attitude on a much larger scale, that is the basis for so many of the biggest problems we have online today.
To that end, even though I have my doubts about the legitimacy or chances of success regarding relationships between main stars in a movie, especially one has destroyed box offices around the world, the relationship was real. However, it was also one that has helped sell the movies because the relationship was a catalyst between fantasy and reality, since there may be many more Twilight fans who have problems separating the two.
