According to research firm Gartner, worldwide sales of smartphones to consumers totaled 968 million. Unfortunately for developers, even if that’s the case, about one third of smartphone owners in the U.K. don’t care about downloading applications, according to professional service firm Deloitte.

The firm told The Telegraph that, in a typical month, 31 percent of smartphone owners in the U.K. choose not to delve into their device’s app store. For those that do, the average number of downloaded apps has decreased year-over-year, from 2.32 to 1.82.

It seems like 1 in 3 people in the UK wasted their money on a smartphone while a $10-30 regular cell phone will be good enough for their needs.

These buyers probably be better off saving money by buying a regular cell phone for voice calls, texting, and basic web browsing since a lot of regular cell phones have web browsers, GPS, bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.

I bet there is a small, but profitable market for selling regular cell phones to people who just need to make calls, text, use GPS, and browse the web.

huh, I wonder why that is.

Maybe most of the 1 in 3  smartphone users who don't really use apps got a smartphone for free from their children or a relative which frequently upgrade their smartphones on a yearly basis, so their kids or relatives give their old phones to their parents or relatives who are not interested in apps, and just need a phone for voice calls and texts.
