Electronic Arts today announced the launch of Origin, a digital distribution platform that will allow users to purchase and download more than 150 games from EA's catalog.

In coming months, the publisher says Origin will offer exclusive limited edition copies of EA games like Battlefied 3 and FIFA 12, as well as content from EA Partners such as Alice: Madness Returns and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Origin will also be the only digital distribution platform to offer the upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The Origin beta application is available for download at www.origin.com. Through the app, users can find and connect with friends, see what others are playing and download and play EA's games. Exclusive content and trailers for upcoming EA titles, including Mass Effect 3, Madden NFL 12, Need for Speed The Run and The Sims 3, are also available.

lol, I don't know what's funny. to think EA can pull this off or that they can be a match for steam.

It may come down to this: People going with a gaming company they love and that loves them or EA that is still trying too look good with the consumer. Really what maters is if EA tries to screw people over with prices and the like they will stay with steam.
