Japanese Wii owners will have a new type of content to look forward to tomorrow. Nintendo Japan will be kicking off paid video downloads in its home territory, with the promise of movies, anime and more.

A part of the "Wii no Ma Channel" (roughly, "Wii Family Room Channel"), the new Theater Room offers access to video content download on a rental basis. Users can search for content by genre and rating, view free preview clips, then select to transfer their WiiPoints.

Pricing and viewing period will differ based off the content. Nintendo hasn't shared a final list, but a screenshot of the service shows an episode of the Kirby anime priced at 100 yen for a rental.

Some content can also be transferred to the DSi for viewing on the go. This transfer feature was previously available via the main Wii no Ma channel itself, a free video service that has been running since May.

While we don't have a list of content, it looks like Nintendo has some major backing here. Disney, Warner, Sesame Workshop, Toei, NHK, TV Asahi, Pokemon, Asmik Ace Entertainment, and Warp Star are among the content providers.

Nintendo previously said that it would be bringing the Wii no Ma video service to regions outside of Japan. Consider this a preview of things to come for the rest of the world.

There are already a lot of online video service alternatives like Itunes, Amazon, etc. But, this sounds good.
