PAX East started today and it kicked off with some big Final Fantasy news.

Square Enix announced that a collaboration between Final Fantasy XV and Shadow of the Tomb Raider is on the way and just a simple title image was shown with no other info.

In 2019, Square Enix confirmed that FF 15 will receive 4 new story DLC with the following info:

The episodes will portray an “alternate grand finale” for the game, showing "a future everyone longed for," meaning a possible outcome that could have existed for each of four characters:

  • The first full episode will focus on Ardyn and is tentatively titled The Conflict of the Sage. The episode "portrays the struggles of Ardyn. Witness the resentment he harbored toward Lucis for over 2000 years, and his clashes with the Astrals"
  • A smaller “side story” episode will focus on Aranea Highwind of the Niflheim Empire and will focus on the Starscourge disease. "The final day of the Empire turns out to be Aranea's worst day," Square Enix teased.
  • A second full episode will let you play as Lunafreya and has the working title The Choice of Freedom. The story is "about Luna's fate, which not even death can free her from. Her battle to save the one she loves overturns the destiny dealt to the Lucian King."
  • The final episode is titled The Final Strike and focuses on Noctis "parting way with the Astrals" as he "embarks upon his final battle in order to attain the ideal future for all his people."

More info on these will come later on in the year.

Comrades multiplayer mode will also see some new content later this year which the update will add raid bosses and battle challenges for players for the first time. This summer, Comrades will also be available standalone, so players won’t need to have the disc or full game installed in order to play.

More info will come later this year.

Final Fantasy will somewhat go the way of Mario Maker, as it will get a character creator, mod support, a level editor, and more for the windows edition of the game.

I wonder what it means for Luna with the "...which not even death can free her from..." thing...so she's going to die again and thus cancelling her previous death and to be reborn anew along with Noctis the Lucian king so they can get hitched properly in the world of the living this time and not like the last time lol.

The episode dlcs are practically adding more possible endings to the game, Tabata once said the satisfaction factor of the players are not high enough so probably he kept adding endings options to the game to raise it. I for one am not happy/satisfied with the original ending.

Also Nomura's original design of Luna was like this

I wonder exactly why Tabata had to change it

lol in a way it's like the Mass Effect 3 ending "debacle" again imo.

Well, worthy or not is a subjective thing, depending on each individual's view on the original story and ending. Still, I am looking forward to the Luna dlc that will/would give a happy ending for the main ship, provided Tabata is not "lying" or flat-out lying.

I wonder who will direct FF 16, hoping it's going to be Hiroyuki Ito. The guy has been "MIA" in the FF universe for quite some time now.

Well he supervised FF XII HD remastered that's released not too long ago. So just maybe he is going to direct a new FF, no clues or intel whatsoever though on it.
