It's been said that the fee for having a verified account on Twitter after the ownership of the social media site changed to Elon Musk would be $20 per month. Would you be willing to pay that to have your account on verified status every month?
Oh, Musk later finalised it to be at $8. It's not that expensive after all. It's $8/month
Those using it for business purposes would always consider it if it fetches them more than what they paid for it.I won't spend a dime even for GL's account, what a waste of money.
It’s nothing but a badge of honor anyway. So I think it’s hilarious to start charging people for it.I won't spend a dime even for GL's account, what a waste of money.
It's why I keep questioning whether how Musk would be running Twitter would invariably kill the social media platform. I saw an update the other day that the former Twitter owner have launched a new app. It’s nothing but a badge of honor anyway. So I think it’s hilarious to start charging people for it.
Charging people for a badge of honor is something I would do. People take the check mark way too seriously. They act like they got a Nobel Prize for having a check mark. It's why I keep questioning whether how Musk would be running Twitter would invariably kill the social media platform. Let's see how far that's going to go with users of Twitter on the long run. I have always felt that it's not a big deal anyways.Charging people for a badge of honor is something I would do. People take the check mark way too seriously. They act like they got a Nobel Prize for having a check mark.
It's definitely going to matter to all those Twitter influencers. I believe they are the one's actually benefiting from it most.If you are making a lot of money I can see how this is more of a rich influencer's game. Better than giving it out for free.
Yes however I’d argue the monetisation of it will fast remove it been seen as a badge of honor. It’s nothing but a badge of honor anyway. So I think it’s hilarious to start charging people for it.
Tbh I don't have a problem with that, since it's been used by grifters to get people banned off the platform for the simple notion of "he said something I didn't like". It's also meaningless outside of Twitter. "Hi, I have a blue checkmark on Twitter!".Yes however I’d argue the monetisation of it will fast remove it been seen as a badge of honor.

Okay.... and I care why?

If that pays you well enough, it's a verification cost that's worth it.It depends on what I am using Twitter for. If I am using it to do some gigs that pay me money, I can happily pay the $20.
When everyone can pay for the verification, even if they are shitty people on Twitter, what value does that hold for the verification except for adding more money to Elon Musk's account?I think verification could be useful for companies, and artists who want to make it easier for fans and customers to find their real Twitter account.
Paying for verification could be useful if a company or artist use Twitter to promote their products and services, so people feel they found the right account instead of an imposter.
They do have different criteria for businesses and government stuff:When everyone can pay for the verification, even if they are shitty people on Twitter, what value does that hold for the verification except for adding more money to Elon Musk's account?
