One quarter after their biggest drop in history, global PC shipments dropped another 10.9 percent this quarter as traditional computer sales have now fallen for a record fifth straight quarter, Gartner said.

“We are seeing the PC market reduction directly tied to the shrinking installed base of PCs, as inexpensive tablets displace the low-end machines used primarily for consumption in mature and developed markets,” Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa said in a statement.

The people who want PCs, are most likely building PCs themselves, or upgrading their old PCs, so they are fast enough for them.

There are also people who attach keyboards to iPad, Android, and Windows 8 tablets to use like PCs for typing documents and e-mails on their tablets, and smartphones.

I haven't had a new PC since 2007, and don't plan to buy a new one unless I can't fix my PC myself. I also have a few older computers which I can upgrade, and use as my main PC.

I bet a lot of people are buying refurbished, and used PCs off of eBay, Craigslists, and getting PCs free from family and friends because it is a lot cheaper than buying new PCs.
