First it was Warner Bros. Discovery eyeing Paramount Plus. Next it was Byron Allen. Now news comes that Comcast, the owner of Peacock, may be entertaining a merger with the beleaguered Paramount. Everyone seems to be kicking the tires on the storied entertainment business.

In Comcast’s case it may make sense. Both Paramount Plus and Peacock have been working hard to court subscribers in order to further solidify their respective statuses as lasting players in the streaming space. According to a new report, the platforms’ parent companies could be considering a unique partnership.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Comcast and Paramount have been in recent talks about a potential streaming partnership that could see Paramount Plus and Peacock being offered to subscribers together as a package deal. Along with making access to the two platforms comparatively cheaper than buying separate subscriptions, the partnership would help Comcast and Paramount “produce significant cost savings — from spending on programming to marketing.”

Word of these recent talks comes in the wake of Disney / ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. announcing last week that they’re working together to create a new shared service focused on sports — a sign that more studios and networks are beginning to get very serious about collaborating to survive the streaming wars.

I'm not a fan of either platform.

This reminds me of when Bill Cosby tried to buy NBC back in the 90s when they were in financial trouble. Cosby wanted to do so because he saw how influential his shows were on the network and wanted to expand on its success, and NBC told him that they would never sell to him, and they told him to stop asking. He persisted and the next thing you knew the string of accusations about him came out.

This feels like a shady backroom deal (like the one between Albertsons and Kroger stores, to screw over unionized workers) and a repeat of history with Byron Allen. He owns The Weather Channel, and because of that some cable companies have opted not to carry his channels content.

So while, I would love it if he got Paramount as it would mean that he would bring his content to the platform (I am a HUGE weather geek and would watch TWC as a 90s kid when it was ONLY weather, like WeatherNation is now.. and TWC content is the reason Blackbeard has nothing on me.. arr.. lol) I am just sitting here wondering when the flurry of accusations and other bullshit will surface..

I use peacook and paramount & I wonder if this has anything to do with Disney’s plans to merge disney+ with Hulu.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they increase the price if paramount and peacook move forward with a merge smh.

I watch a lot of shows on Peacock or on Tubi. Peacock tends to have a nice selection of older shows I enjoy. Not sure how this will affect the fee. We are already paying a lot for TV in our Bundle.
