I think it can be a waste of money buying stuff you think will be worth a lot of money in a few years since it is not the case for many things like "older pcs and laptops made by Emachine, Compaq, HP, Acer, VCRs, and those heavy tube TVs made by RCA or GoldStar".
Plus, by the time the price of older things goes up when it is worth selling, you'll be very old like in your 70s-80s in some cases if you are lucky.
Buying old things can not be a good way of making cash in the "short term" like 1-3 years. Plus, if you spend all your money on Antiques, and your car suddenly breaks down and no one is willing to buy your old things because of the poor economy or its worthless because everyone has one then you won't have any money to pay to get your car fixed because you spent it all on old things.
I don't buy things because they go up in value. I buy things I like and keep them till they break or I run out of room.
