I think it makes them look suspicous if they suddenly deleted all their Social sites like Myspace, Facebook, LinkedIN, Twitter,etc since people think they probably posted a bunch of hateful stuff or sexy pictures 
. Plus, people can always start rumurs like "she deleted her facebook because she was a member of many racist groups and promoted racism".
Plus, Social Networks are a great way to find out how to do a better job since you can meet people who are more knowledgeable in auto mechanics, police officer, or Scientist since there are so many groups on certain subjects with forums, blogs, and news feeds in the groups on Social Nets.
