I don't really mind since getting affiliates can bring more members to my site, and some of the forum links they post are pretty good.

yeah, it would be great. that's why we require them to post in order to submit a affiliate or post a link.
I actually laugh when they join just to advertise. It really does nothing for their forum, and makes them look worse in the eyes of the community.

which is why (daily, weekly) post exchanges can be the best thing for forums.
