The Shin Megami Tensei series has been getting a lot of attention here in the west lately, especially since the release of Persona 4, which moved 340,000 copies. The Persona spinoff has also seen significant success in the portable market, both the original Persona remake, and Persona 3 Portable doing exceptionally well critically, though they didn't perform quite as well sales-wise.

Regardless it seems that Atlus has seen fit to go ahead and release the PlayStation Portable remake of the second installment in the Persona series, subtitled Innocent Sin, in the United States. Originally released for the PlayStation in 1999, the game has never been localized for the western market, and this will be the first time that those not fluent in the Japanese language will find themselves getting the most out of what the title has to offer.

Persona 2: Innocent Sins is where the series "found its identity," according to the press release from Atlus. It marks the maturing of the franchise, bearing a greater focus on narrative development and characters than on long-winded dungeon-delving. Innocent Sin also abandons the original game's first-person exploration for a third-person perspective on the action, and is the first entry to which series artist Shigenori Soejima contributed.

Persona 2: Innoncent Sin is scheduled for release on the PlayStation Portable this fall in North America, with no specific release date announced. You can check out the game;s fully-animated introduction video below, as well as a host of excellent screenshots, and you can visit the game's official English website here.
