Physical game spending only fell by 11 percent in the US last year, but overall spending reached just $1.5 billion, the lowest on record. "Yes, the rate of decline slowed," Piscatella explains. "But that's mostly because we're nearing the bottom." The future of gaming is looking more and more digital with each passing year, and while that might sound worrying at first, especially as preservation is pushed to the wayside, it's not a black and white issue.

Physical will always be better than digital. It's sad seeing the decline of physical game sales. I also hate when companies only release a game digitally. Once games go to digital only, I'm only going to get the new Sonic and Pokemon games so I'll probably just stick to nintendo consoles.

Nintendo will be pretty much digital here soon as well.

When you're only physical option for a new game is Limited Run, there's no reason to buy. Physical games going away means less stuff to barder, and less value in digital goods. If you're digital games go away don't blame game companies getting your consent to take your money. Homebrew solves this issue.

It did make me question the point of physical games when the games immediately get patched, and also when game installs became the standard. I bought the disc to save space for digital only games, but when the game still takes up 50-100 gigs of storage, it was like… what’s the point?

It is sad that physical game sales are declining. I feel buying physical games are a better choice for people with very slow internet connections where downloading a bigger file size game can take hours to download and install.

Then I'll only stick to getting new games in my favorite franchises and be done with modern gaming other than that lol. Digital only is lame. I have a huge backlog of older games to play anyways.

Same, I need to play some past classics.

Honestly killed the need for physical games when this started to happen.
