I've always wondered why people can't play with/against others on other systems. I would think it be possible if the company wanted to do it.

I think the game makers don't want it to happen since they might want people to buy the 360, PS3, Wi, Wii U and PC versions of the same game to play with friends on different systems, so they hope get one game buyer buy 2 or more versions of the same games for their different consoles they own.

There is cross platform play with Android and iOS for certain games. Just not with popular gaming consoles like the Wii U, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

It'd be nice to have this but I don't think it's going to change anytime soon.

I think PC is cross platform for online gaming as well since I never heard stories of people not being able to play games against people who use Mac, Windows, and Linux as long as the game is released for their PC operating system.

Not sure if it is possible to be honest but I can not see why it would not be if they actually tried to make it work to be honest. This is something I would love to see, it would mean that people could play using the console they enjoy the most but still play with others who prefer other consoles and it would make the online community a lot bigger for gaming.

I bet the less popular mini-consoles like Ouya, Gamestick, and Nvidia Shield will have a feature that let them play online with other gamers on different mini-console systems because Android games like Shadowgun multiplayer already let people with different brand Android devices like Tablets, phones, and Android PC to be able to play with each other on the same online games.
