PS4 PlayStation 2 Classics MIA?

If you remember Sony said it would bring a number of PlayStation 2 titles to the PS4 via PSN emulation. However the last title in this project was The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga in June 2018.

Think this means PS5 will play PS2 discs?

I feel it is unlikely that PS2 disc will work on the PS5 since Sony is not very well known for their consoles being backwards compatible with their older console games.
