A survey of 1,000 gamers across the US performed by Time2Play has concluded that PlayStation gamers and Gen Z are the two most likely groups to cheat while playing video games. Notably, PC players were perceived as cheating in games the most, despite PlayStation gamers confessing to cheating more often. There was no significant difference between men and women that found cheating in games acceptable, with 78% of men being fine with the practice compared to 75% of women.

Meanwhile, 83% of Gen Z respondents were fine with cheating, while 77% of Millennials found it acceptible. Both Gen X and Baby Boomers clocked in at a 74% agreement rate. The top reason for cheating was that it "helps overcome frustration," with "increases enjoyment" being a close second, with 49% of respondents and 48% of respondents, respectively. Additionally, 81% of respondents stated that it was more acceptable to cheat while playing alone.

Cheating is a very non-descript term I feel. Is it cheating to add Pokemon into your save file you didn't catch or breed? Is it cheating to abuse a glitch to get something helpful out of it? Cheating to use Amiibo tags instead of buying them separately? And also what games are we talking about here? Anyways I hope Gen Z doesn't find cheating on their husband as a "fun game mechanic." I'm curious about that additional Playstation sentiment because maybe their games are chocked full of codes like infinite lives.

Back in my day everyone wanted a game genie for the SNES to be honest.

I feel using cheat codes in offline games can be kind of fun depending on what the cheat code does.

I'd only do it if Game Over means starting from the beginning and there is no way to save progress. Some SNES games can be brutally hard and if that was all you had it would get on my nerves.

It would be interesting to find out what the definition of "cheating" is for a lot of these gamers. Do modified save files count? And how the hell are PlayStation gamers actually finding ways to cheat in games?

I wonder how are console gamers cheating since consoles are generally very restricted where you can't easily change the game files where you can cheat in games by modifying game files to give yourself an advantage over other players.

I guest, gamers can be using a custom-made third-party or modded controller which make pressing buttons faster, so they can perform actions in games faster.
