Remember PS Home, Playstation 3's virtual arcade and social hangout? Well, if so then you may remember one of the developers, Atom Republic. Atom Republic has just released the official open beta for Atom Universe now downloadable on PS4.

From what I have read nDreams and other developers from PS Home have signed up to develop for this, which is good since at the moment it is very Alpha rather than the claimed Beta.

I messed around with it for about 30 minutes at least and there really wasn't much to do but fight a couple glitches (such as the environments interactions list being stuck on screen until I found the ONE chair I was able to sit on) since it is single-player as of the moment. The graphics don't look too shabby, although they tend to look real plastic-like rather than what I was used to on PS Home.

I knew other developers such as Kovok were building their own PS Home-style apps for the PS4, but I am curious as to where it will all lead. AR has already signed on other former Home developers such as nDreams to develop for AU, but if the likes of developers such as Kovok are building their own and didn't sgree, will we be seeing multiple Home successors, will any be interactive with any others in any way, or will they eventually give in and hop onto one base engine and server like Home originally was?

Looks pretty good! Have to say, I was a bit confused when they said they were shutting down the original, since it was actually a pretty interesting idea. But hey, at least there's gonna be a replacement!

I spent SO MUCH MONEY on PS Home. I honestly felt it was the biggest money-maker through microtransactions alone. I thought for sure they would bring it over to PS4. they didn't even give people who spent thousands of dollars on there more than a "Thank you" when they shut it down.

Huh, that seems neat. I never really used Playstation home, though I only ever tried it towards the end of it's lifecycle when it apparently had fallen out of fashion. I play SecondLife though, so I dunno how interested I'd be in this sort of game.
