If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and frequent the PlayStation Store at the Metreon, you'll soon be bored. The Metreon's PlayStation store is closing up shop as Sony's contract with the Metreon has expired and the company has deemed not to renew it. While the Metreon was originally built by Sony, it was purchased by The Westfield Group in February of 2006, with Sony continuing to lease the spot for the PlayStation store since then. The store has served as focused launch sites for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PSP.
We called up the PlayStation store and asked about its closing date, and the employee we talked to deferred us to Sony's corporate number for more details. Calling said number resulted in options for repairing our systems or figuring out how to properly place a disc in the system tray if it isn't working (label side up, apparently), but the tech guys didn't have a comment on the store's closing date.
