Sony announced today it will remove movie and tv show media starting August 31, 2021.

“We’ve seen tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our consoles,” Sony wrote in a post over on the PlayStation Blog. “With this shift in customer behavior, we have decided to no longer offer movie and TV purchases and rentals through PlayStation Store.”

Not that surprised. I've never even though about using the PS Store for it and I can't remember the last time I actually bought a movie or TV show outright. Streaming will be king for a long time!

I feel a lot of people use streaming service like Netflix, Hulu, and free ad-supported streaming services like Youtube, so users are less likely to buy movies and TV shows from Sony.

A lot of people may also rather buy physical movies recorded on DVD and Blu-Ray disc, or rent shows and movies for a few dollars from YouTube, Apple iTunes, Amazon, and other online video rental websites.
