In October, the game will cease support for multiple kinds of device and operating systems, locking some players out of the game. On Twitter, the official Pokemon Go account has announced an end to support for devices running Android 5, iOS 10, and iOS 11 in October. This could mean that the app will roll out new features that would be difficult to support on older devices.
I don't know about the iOS versions but Android 5 is quite old so I'm not surprised about that. It does seem weird that they are not going to support the iPhone 6 though. I know it's a bit old but it is still used quite a bit around the world.
Definitely sucks for some people but it makes sense. The game shouldn't be limited because of the need to support older devices. It's better to bring in new and advanced features to try and entice more new users to the game
