What happens when a phone battery is smashed or deeply stabbed with a knife. Boom!

I think battery explosions  and fires from people being irresponsible by poking their cell phones battery with a knife or bending and hitting it with a hammer is one of the reason why cell phone makers are making more cell phones with non-removable batteries to prevent lawsuits and news stories from people who injured themselves when they damage their battery by poking it.

If this guy poked a tablet's battery from a large tablet like the iPad Air or Galaxy Tab 10 inch, I bet he may risk being injured by the greater explosive power from a tablet's battery, and the extra flying metal from the battery case.

holy shit :O

well, I know what to do if I need fire.

There maybe toxic fumes from the explosion, and fire. If someone create an explosion in a public place these days, they may get sent to prison.

I was thinking along the lines of being stuck in the middle of nowhere or in a cold place.
I think a lighter or matches would be a safer form of fire. But, poking a hole in a smartphone battery would work at getting a fire started if you are in the middle of no where, and needed to warm up.

But, you have to be careful not to start a forest fire by accident since if you get caught by the police it could be difficult proving you started a fire which sparked a fire to warm up yourself vs starting a forest fire to have fun by burning down a forest.

people are more likely to carry around a cell phone than matches.

And if there is a forest fire, at least I will be found :P

There are still a lot of cigarette and cigar smokers. Smoking weed and other drugs are now more acceptable if you live in  some places like Washington state. Smokers would most likely have a lighter or matches to light up their cigs and joints. People who carry around survival kits would have a lighter or matches in most cases.

Those Zippo metal lighters are now also very popular collector items, so there are people who carry around lighters.

I agree if there is a forest fire you would be found, but you may be seriously burned, inhaled too much smoke, and not survive long enough for your rescuers to save you.
