Pottermore is a free-to-use website "which builds an exciting online experience" around the Harry Potter book series. The Pottermore website was revealed a few days ago but no details were released. Many hoped Pottermore would be a MMORPG allowing gamers to make their own student and go to Hogwarts. I still have faith this will one day happen, but this isn't it.
Today, Harry Potter's creator, J.K. Rowling officially announced her new project. J.K. Rowling has written new material about Harry Potter's characters, places and objects. The added material is meant to "inform, inspire and entertain readers as they journey through the storylines of the books." While it's not a video game, it's definitely taking a note from gaming. It will offer an interactive way to read through the series.
The Pottermore site will eventually feature an online store which will be the exclusive seller of Harry Potter eBooks. Over time, the site will include more Harry Potter specific items intended to enhance the reading experience for HP fans.
Pottermore's beta launches on July 31st, Harry's birthday, and will be open to everyone this October. Existing stoylines will be "brought to life" through new illustrations, and interactive "moments" from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
"As you move through the chapters, you can read and share exclusive writing from J.K. Rowling, and, just as Harry joins Hogwarts, so can you. You visit Diagon Alley, get sorted into a house, and cast spells and mix potions to help your house compete for the House Cup."
