NVIDIA says Project Shield will be available for pre-order starting May 20 for $350. The open platform portable gaming console will begin shipping in June.

Nvidia Shield is a phone, tablet, and console. Shield runs Android Jelly Bean and has high-fidelity audio, 2GB RAM, 16GB flash storage, and 720p playback. In addition to price info, today we also learned that there are a couple of PC games landing on Shield, including Broken Age, Costume Quest, Flyhunter Origins, Skiing Fred, and Chuck's Challenge 3D. But if those don't do it for you, there are more titles to come.

Nvidia Shield handheld console looks good for someone who needs a smartphone, and portable handheld console which can play a large library of Android games which already work with the Nvidia Shield's controller.

I like the clamshell screen which can be folded down like a laptop to carry it around in a bag, or larger pocket.

$350 sounds like a decent price because buying a high quality phone, Tegra 3-4 tablet, and game console like the Wii U with a touchscreen all seperately would cost $600-700. Plus, the Nvidia shield can be used as a PC if you connect a wireless mouse and keyboard to it with Bluetooth or USB since 2GB of RAM, and the Tegra 4 is fast enough for most daily PC tasks like web browsing, office work, video and music playback, and other tasks. It also have a HDMI port to connect it to a monitor, and HDTV for gaming and using apps on a bigger screen.

The Shield may have fewer exclusive games like Mario, Zelda, etc, but there more games like Modern Combat 4, Asphalt 7, Shadowgun, Dead Trigger, Real Racing 3, Dungeon Hunter 4, and other games which will work for the Shield. If Nvidia or someone makes a button mapping app for the Shield, the built-in controller would work with almost all games with a touchscreen buttons.

Plus, Android games are more affordable than console games.

The Shield is also a tablet, and can be easily used as a netbook by connecting a bluetooth keyboard, or can be used as a desktop by connecting it to a HDMI monitor, and rooting the Shield to install Ubuntu for Mobile/Arm or Ubuntu touch onto it.

According to the article, it is also a smartphone, and a quality unlock smartphone like the iPhone 5 without a subsidized price because of a long 2 year contract  can cost $500-600+.

I bet the Shield is cheaper than the Steambox, PS4, and Next Xbox.
