What is the better style of combat in your opinion? Are you a lover or close quarters combat with swords and the like, or do you prefer more of a ranged combat approach with guns and bows when it comes to video games?

I personally love a good close quarter combat game, it just looks visually appealing and in my opinion is much more tense when playing.

close quarter, since it makes the battle a bit more exciting and go quicker. Though if it's a gun game then I would be long range with a sniper.

I disagree. I try to play mages in most of my RPG style games. Hitting someone with a really big sword is cool and everything, but nothing beats being able to make your enemies literally explode. They also have some of the best looking effects.

On second play-throughs I either build healers or tanks depending on the game. In something like Dragon Age where you have a party, I play healers to try to get a long, grindy, interesting game. In something more like Oblivion where you are solo, I go tank instead to see just how long I can go without dying.

If you're talking in general, I like multi-player games that offer a few different options so people can specialize. The ones that get the balance right so no one method really dominates over the others really create the best playing experience. Hunting the people you can dominate while being hunted by those who can dominate you is the right level of tension and enjoyment in P2P combat.

Definitely shooting them from afar. I like to play stealthy characters and hit them when they least expect it.

I don't play many FPS games though, I'm mostly referring to the way I build my characters in RPGs.

It varies on the situation I'm in. If there are enimes up close I'll go for a knife or sword, but if it's a situation where's there's a little distance, I'll go with a gun.

Dead Rising 2 was a good example. Lots of enimes up close, just take a sword and start swinging and slashing. I tried the guns to compare but you just get overwhelmed way too quickly.

Close quarter is definitely better for me. If I have to aim manually, I totally suck at aiming and it takes me forever to hit the target. At least with close combat, I can easily hit the target and kill them.

I'm the same. I really do suck at aiming and I'm almost impossible at hitting moving things! I lead my target a lot but I just think I get lucky sometimes.

Stuff like rocket launchers & grenades that do a lot of splash damage are a godsend for me!

Melee combat is the best combat. I like shooting too but goddamn melee combat is just much more satisfying. That's why I love the Souls games and Dragon's Dogma: they're the very best medieval fantasy action RPG combat systems ever made.

In general I prefer close combat. In RPG style games that have various attack options I always go with duel blades if it is available, and if not I'll take whatever close combat option I can get. Some of my favorite second choices are hammers/axe combat items, or just the usual long sword. I'm one of those people that is bad at aim too, so ranged combat is just too difficult for me to have any fun with. Guns and bows & arrows have their advantages in games they're a big part of, but not as fun for me.

I know a lot of people play video games for a challenge, but I'd rather get through it with enough ease to be able to enjoy whatever story goes along with it, and I don't want to be losing and refighting the same battle over and over again. So close combat for me!
